Q. - What is the Princess of North Carolina State Pageant System?
A. - The Princess of North Carolina State Pageant is a traditional pageant system in that we believe that little girls should always look like little girls, and that wardrobe and make-up should always be "age appropriate"!


Q. - How long have you been in exsitence?
A. - The Princess of North Carolina State Scholarship Pageant was established in the summer of 1993
with its first pageant in June of that year!


Q. - Do you have to live in North Carolina to compete?
A. - Yes, you must be a resident of the state of NC for at least 6 months and one day of the year or maintain a NC mailing address for the same amount of time.

Q. - Are you a "Natural" type pageant system?
A. - Yes, but not totally "natural"! We believe that little girls should look like little girls and that wardrobe and make-up should always be "age appropriate". A little make-up is fine! Wardrobe should be designed and geared towards the childs age, ability and personality!


Q. - What are your age divisions?
A. - Baby Miss - 15 to 30 months
       Wee Miss - 31 months to 3 yrs
       Tiny Miss - 4 to 6 yrs
       Little Miss - 7 to 9 yrs
       Junior Miss - 10 to 12 yrs
       Young Miss - 13 to 15 yrs
       Teen Miss - 16 to 18 yrs
       Miss - 19 to 26 yrs

Q. - Is talent required in your state pageant?
A. - Yes, talent and interview are required at state for ages 7 and up! We pride ourselves in being one of only two pageant systems in the entire state of NC in which talent is a required part of competition! It has been an intrigal part of our pageant since its beginning! We have talent as an option for ages 5 and under. We encourage all our parents to start their little ones in some type talent as early as possible to nurture their sense of accomplishment, self-esteem and self -confidence.

Q. - How long is a talent routine required to be?
A. - Talent routines can last up to 3 minutes total! The average is betwwen 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 minutes!


Q. - Do you have a "grace period" for your age divisions?
A. - No, the division your child will compete in is based on her age as of the date of the first day of competition of the State pageant! You are allowed to move up an age division to compete if you so choose! Proof of age is required.

Q. - What are your main areas of competition?
A. - Mandatory competition consist of Beauty,Casual wear,Talent and private interview for ages 7 and up! Beauty and Casual wear are mandatory for ages 6 and under. Optionals consist of swimwear, photogenic, best dress,and best sportswear. Talent and sleepware are optional for ages 6 and under!


Q. - How do I qualify to compete at state?
A. - It's simple! Just compete in any of our official preliminaries and your qualified! Better still if you compete and win your division we'll pay 100% of your beauty fees ($100.00 value) to the state pageant! First runner-up's will receive half (a $50.00 value) towards their state beauty fees! Majestic winners (7 & up) receive their beauty and talent fee paid to State (a $150 dollar value)!


Q. - Do I have to compete in an official preliminary to be eligable for state?
A. - Yes, we have never been an "at large" state pageant. By requiring contestants to qualify in an official preliminary we try to insure that everyone who comes to the state competition is prepared for a higher level of competition. We want to be fair and honest...................allowing someone to compete at a state level competition who's unprepared in our eyes would not be ethical! This way, contestants who do qualify are better prepared to compete at a state level competition.


Q. - If I win a Princess of North Carolina State title, can I represent other titles?
A. - Unfortunately, No, once you win a Princess of North Carolina State title you are bound to that title soley until crowning at the following years state pageant! Any other titles that you currently hold you will be allowed to return and crown your successor.

Q. - If I win a state title can I still compete in other pageants?
A. - Yes, you may compete in other pageants (excluding any Princess preliminary) of your choice. We understand the importance of maintaining a competitive edge during your reign as our state queen! However, as mentioned before you may not represent any other title! (Please refer to the Princess of North Carolina State Pageant rules and regulations for additional info)


Q. - Do you have divisions for boys?
A. - Unfortunately no, we have chosen to structure our state pageant soley for young girls.


Q. - Do you have a division for married women?
A. - No


Q. - Can I compete in any preliminary in the State of NC?
A. - Yes, you may compete in any official Princess of North Carolina preliminary of your choice. However, you must agree to abide by the *rules and regulations requarding appearances, parades, etc. of the preliminary director!

Q. - If I compete in an official preliminary and win, can I still go and compete in other Princess prelimnaries?
A. -In most cases No, you may however compete in other preliminaries that offer a "Royalty" division. Royalty competitions are offered specifically for current preliminary title holders so that they may possibily win additional fees off their State entries. Once you win a preliminary title you are closed to competiting in any other Princess preliminary, however you may compete in other pageants (non-princess)*unless instructed otherwise by the preliminary director.

Q. - Can I represent other titles if I win a Princess preliminary title?
A. -Depends, this decision will be at the preliminary directors discretion and *prior approval must be obtained from the director before doing so! (*Please refer to the preliminary pageant application/paperwork or consult the director)


Q. - What are the guidlines reguarding off the rack (OTR) casual wear?
A. -Casual wear should be age appropriate, no bare mid-driffs, off the rack (OTR), and should have all original tags still intact. It can be taylored to fit but cannot be custom made. No restrictions on material. The addition of additional stones, sequins, and trim are allowed.


Q. - Are pageant dresses allowed to be "Glitzy"?
A. -Yes, pageant dresses/gowns can be as fancy as you like! Heavy beading, appliques, rhinestones are all acceptable!


Q. - What type of shoes should be worn with casual wear?
A. -Their are no restrictions on the shoes to be worn in casual wear. They should complement the outfit or be clear or taupe.


Q. - What type of shoes should be worn with swimwear?
A. -Normally clear or taupe shoes are worn with swimsuits for older girls and for the younger girls, a piece of matching satin ribbon wrapped around the toe(s) and ankle (faux sandle), flip-flops, sandles and even barefoot are all acceptable.


Q. - Regarding photogenic...........what is meant by "all natural" is make-up allowed?
A. - Make-up is allowed but should only be enough for photographic needs. Natural photo's mean no enhancements, or retouching  is allowed but photo's must be done professionally!
